Clutter is
not one project spread out over an entire workspace
or a pile of clothes on the floor of your closet. Clutter is
unsorted and unrelated documents or items mixed together.
When messages, mail, and project assignments all
end up
in the same pile on your desk or when your laundry
is piled
on your dresser with your jewelry and breakfast dished--that
is clutter!
The consequences are stress, lost
time, lost productivity, embarrassment, arguments,
depression
and environmental
chaos – just to name a few. If you
have been bitten by the “clutter bug”,
take control by following these steps:
- Assess
the situation – make
a list of the specific problem areas.
- Focus
your attention – select
the area that bothers you most to
work on first.
- Plan
your attack – break
the project into small pieces or
hire an organizing consultant
to assist you.
- Pick
a date – set
a specific date, mark your calendar
and prepare yourself for the task.
- Take
charge – eliminate
distractions, grab your weapons and
attack the clutter!
- Celebrate – reward
yourself for your efforts after completing
each task
Beware! Regardless of the time of year,
the “clutter
bug” is waiting to bite! |
